Overview
The Run for the Rescue is a 5K trail race at Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown, organized by the Never Stop Running Foundation as part of their Goodwill Series. The race benefits Last Chance Animal Rescue, a nonprofit that pulls animals from kill shelters and finds them homes. It’s the kind of cause that makes a Saturday morning race feel worthwhile, and the setting doesn’t hurt either.
Blydenburgh is a beautiful park with a mix of terrain β sand, dirt roads, packed trails, and some pavement. The course is a bit challenging in spots but it’s accessible for all experience levels and there’s a reason people come back for it year after year. The park is also dog-friendly, which means you can bring your four-legged training partner as long as they’re leashed and you start toward the back of the pack.
If you’re looking for a spring trail 5K that doesn’t feel like a typical road race, this one delivers on setting, cause, and atmosphere. NSRF runs a well-organized event and you’ll be done in time to enjoy the rest of the morning.
