Overview
The Mary Ruchalski Foundation 5K raises money for pediatric cancer research and supports families impacted by pediatric cancer. It’s a cause with deep personal roots β the foundation was started in memory of Mary Ruchalski, and the race has the kind of genuine community warmth that comes with that kind of history. It runs at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, which is about as accessible and spectator-friendly as Nassau County gets.
The 5K goes off at 9 AM on the USATF certified Eisenhower Park course β flat, fast, and familiar to anyone who has raced in Nassau County before. Bib pickup opens at 8 AM. The untimed 1 Mile Fun Run follows the 5K finish, which makes this an easy event to bring the whole family to regardless of pace or ability.
There’s a raffle and a $100 AMEX gift card up for grabs for one registered participant, which is a nice bonus. Top overall finishers get trophies, age group winners get medals. It’s a well-organized, purposeful event and the kind of race that rewards actually sticking around after you cross the finish line.
