Overview
The Massapequa Park Mile is one of the oldest active one mile road races on Long Island, and it’s been running for over 30 years. That kind of history means the race has a real community feel to it. It’s organized by Massapequa Road Runners, and you’ll see a mix of competitive runners chasing fast times alongside local runners just looking to test themselves on a classic course.
The course is point-to-point, running south through the village on flat road. Women go off at 9:00 AM and men at 9:30 AM, so it moves quickly. There’s a free Kids Fun Run after the main race, which makes it a good one to bring the family to. There’s also a $100 bonus on the table if anyone breaks the course record, which has stood since 2009 on the men’s side.
If you’ve never raced a standalone mile before, this is a good one to try. It’s short enough that almost anyone can push through it, and the flat course gives you a honest shot at a fast time. If you’re a seasoned runner, it’s a great early October sharpener.
