Overview
The Great Easter Basket is an NSRF race at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, and it’s one of those events that actually uses the park well. The course passes the Unisphere twice and circles the Fountain of the Planets, so you’re running through genuine New York City landmarks rather than just loops of a parking lot. The 5K is one loop, the 10K is two. Both are USATF certified.
It runs Easter Sunday morning, which gives it a festive feel. There’s a free Kids Run at 9 AM, the main races go at 9:30, and everyone goes home with a finisher medal and an Easter-themed shirt. NSRF runs a well-organized event and the Flushing Meadows course is one of the better urban race settings in the metro area.
If you’re in Queens or Brooklyn or anywhere in the city, this is a solid Easter Sunday morning option. The 10K in particular is a good choice if you want a slightly meatier race without committing to a half marathon.
