Overview
T-Mac’s Run is a memorial 5K and walk at Baldwin Harbor Park organized in honor of Tyler McKenzie, who passed away in 2022 at 28 after a years-long battle with translocation renal cell carcinoma, a rare form of kidney cancer. Tyler grew up on Long Island, attended Syracuse University, and worked for the Brooklyn Nets before his diagnosis. The race raises money for kidney cancer research, cancer patient advocacy, and scholarships, with the American Cancer Society as the signature beneficiary this year.
The format is welcoming to everyone. The 5K run and walk both cover two loops of the park course, while the 1.5 Mile Walk does one loop. Everyone gets a finisher medal. The first 200 registrants get a shirt. There’s a wellness fair, a stretch session before the start, refreshments after, and an awards ceremony at 11:15 AM. The event has a real community feel β the kind where people show up in orange for kidney cancer awareness and mean it.
Wear something orange if you’ve got it. This is one of those races where the cause and the people behind it are worth showing up for.
